Mobile Diesel Technician Level II – DOT Management Level, Individual Contributor at Cox Automotive Position Summary The Mobile Diesel Technician Level II will perform licensed DOT inspections, preventive maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The role involves advanced diagnostics under the supervision of a Sr. Mobile Diesel Technician or higher. Responsibilities Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment. Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment, including: Electrical, brake, cooling systems Starters, alternators, fan clutches Engine electronics, diesel steering systems Engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic) Clutches, differentials Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment, following the same categories listed above. Inspect, test, and analyze defective equipment using handheld computers, pressure gauges, and other diagnostic tools. Conduct road tests to verify correct vehicle operation. Manage parts inventory, reconcile supplies, and maintain company‑issued service vehicle safety inspections. Work independently to schedule daily assignments and prioritize tasks. Document work on Repair Orders (RO) via company iOS devices and our proprietary TRAIT application, including uploading pictures, parts used, and findings. Complete DOT and other required documentation accurately and timely. Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone for repair estimates, purchase order numbers, and RO findings. Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations. Requirements High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field (alternative combinations acceptable). Possess and maintain a set of hand tools necessary for job duties. Obtain Ase T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months of hire. Complete DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical or submit a DOT medical card with >4 months remaining. Minimum age 21, valid driver’s license, and ability to maintain a Driver Qualification File. Preferred Certifications Ase T3 (Drivetrain) Ase T4 (Brakes) Ase T5 (Suspension) Ase T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems) Ase T7 (HVAC) Ase 608/609 Skills & Abilities Analyze new information for problem‑solving and decision‑making. Ability to lift, bend, climb, and walk for extended periods; perform moderate physical labor. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Determine appropriate tools and equipment for tasks. Accurate judgment of distances and spatial relationships. Logical reasoning to evaluate alternatives and solutions.
