Job Title: CNC Machinist III Job Description

The CNC Machinist III is responsible for setting up and operating computer numerical control (CNC) machines, including Lathe, Mill, and Vertical Turning Lathe (VTL). This role involves producing precision metal parts and materials by determining dimensions and tolerances, sequencing operations based on specifications such as blueprints and sketches, and following instructions outlined in routers and technical planning documents.

• Set up, adjust, and operate machine controls to position tools or regulate cutting depth, speed, feed, or coolant flow, producing precision metal parts and materials as specified by work order, blueprints, drawings, templates, or layout.
• Mount, align, and secure tooling, attachments, and work-piece on machine chuck. Start and stop automatic operation of numerical control machine parts or test setup, work-piece dimensions, or programming.
• Monitor and maintain machines during use to diagnose machine malfunctions, need for adjustments, or repairs.
• Perform routine machine maintenance, including checking coolant and positioning of the machine.
• Ensure proper dimensions of finished material to ensure conformance to specifications.
• Clean machine, tooling, parts, and area surrounding machine following 5S procedures.
• Appear for work on time, follow directions from a supervisor, interact well with co-workers, understand and follow work rules and procedures, comply with corporate policies, goals, and objectives, and exhibit initiative and commitment.
• Participate in Daily Management board meetings and engage in discussions regarding Safety, Quality, Delivery, Efficiency, and Utilization.
• Proactively identify opportunities to improve machining processes and participate in Continuous Improvement activities.

• Ability to read basic blueprints, drawings, or templates, including dimensional, true position, and circularity call outs.
• Proficiency in Shop mathematics, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), and Feeds & Speed calculations.
• Knowledge of machines, controllers, and tools, specifically Fanuc or Mazak.
• Ability to control operations of equipment and monitor gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure machines are working properly.
• Ability to set up fixtures properly, including clamping, centering, and indicating of fixture.
• Skill in setting up cutting tools and changing out inserts for cutting operations.
• Proficiency in using and understanding measuring devices, including calipers, micrometers, and bar gauges.

• Minimum of 2 years of previous CNC machine setup and operation experience or equivalent experience.
• High school diploma/GED or equivalent combination of education and experience; vocational training preferred.
• Experience in machining larger parts is preferred.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.

The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in San Diego,CA.
