About the Position

# Job Opportunity – Progressive Care Unit / Medical Oncology RN – Ohio Start Date: October 19, 2026
Location: Columbus, Ohio

Schedule: 12-hour shifts (Day/Night rotating or Night). Shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period based on departmental needs. Weekend shifts variable based on unit requirements. Highlights:

• 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to Progressive Care Unit (PCU) level of care
• High acuity patient population including solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology diagnoses
• Patient ratios: 1:3 for PCU patients; 1:4-5 for Medical-Surgical Telemetry patients
• Epic charting system with comprehensive interdisciplinary support including PT, Respiratory Services, Pharmacy, and Rapid Response Teams
• 72-hour orientation with strong focus on infection prevention protocols and patient safety
• Oncology experience preferred but not required – nurses with ICU and PCU backgrounds thrive in this environment

Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years acute care nursing experience (must be current and consistent within the last 12 months)
• At least 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience required
• Active RN license (Compact or Ohio state license required at time of submission)
• Certifications: BLS (BCLS), ACLS, and NIHSS required
• Nursing degree from ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• Previous travel nursing experience preferred
• Willingness to float to units of equivalent or lower acuity level
• 2 professional references required (at least 1 from manager/director or formal leadership role)

Essential Clinical Skills:

• Telemetry monitoring with GE system and interpretation of dysrhythmias
• Accessing and managing ports, PICC lines, central lines, and peripheral lines
• Blood product administration and heparin protocols
• Managing cardiac drips (no titration) and PCA pumps
• High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), BiPAP/CPAP management
• IV starts, feeding tube care, tracheostomy management
• Chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
• Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)
• Use of rapid response teams and isolation precautions

Preferred Skills:

• Chemotherapy administration and monitoring
• Titration of cardiac and insulin drips
• IV insulin protocols and phlebotomy
• Wound care/wound vac, arterial line management
• Surgical drain management and non-invasive airway management

Equipment Experience:

• GE telemetry B450 monitors
• Alaris pumps and PCA pumps
• Stryker beds
• Bladder scanner and continuous bladder irrigation
