About the Position

Job Title: Nursing - RN Profession: Nursing Specialty: RN Medical Center Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 years MedSurg experience required License: RN Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required Must-Have: EPIC experience Description: This is a Float Pool position. Travelers will be required to float to various units as well as anywhere in the facility there are MedSurg patients. Patient types include general medical-surgical and oncology patients. Oncology patients will receive care but no administration of chemotherapy is required. Some pediatric patients may be present, but no pediatric experience is required. Common surgical cases include gallbladder, appendectomies, colectomies, ostomies, and TURPs. General medical cases involve cellulitis, GI bleeds, CHF, and COPD. Observation for chest pain, dizziness, and syncope will also be included. Ortho cases include total hips, total knees, and shoulder surgeries. Neuro cases involve spine surgeries and strokes. Cardiac cases will include post-procedural patients and general cardiac issues such as heart failure and arrhythmias. Patient ratios are typically 1:4-6 during the day and 1:6 at night. Required skills include management of chest tubes and stable trach, IV skills, and administering various titrated drips. Knowledge of CPAP, BiPAP, and Airvo is necessary, though respiratory therapy will manage the equipment. Foley insertion and care, as well as feeding tube management, are required. Cardiac rhythm interpretation is essential. Support on the unit includes the presence of a charge nurse, healthcare unit coordinator, and certified nursing assistants. Nurses may be required to perform peripheral lab draws. Core medical staff such as hospitalists will be available 24/7 for support. Weaknesses in attracting blood draws may require assistance from specialized staff. Flexible scheduling will include weekend rotations and holiday expectations could entail working during 50% of the holidays. Scrub colors should be solid and professional without graphics or logos.
