PositionSummary TheAssistantEstimatorsupportstheestimatingdepartmentinpreparingaccurate,competitivebidsforcommercialsheetmetalandHVACductworkprojects.Thisincludesreviewingmechanicaldrawingsandspecifications,performingductworkandsheetmetaltakeoffs,obtainingvendorpricing,organizingbidinformation,andpreparingestimates. Theidealcandidateisdetail-oriented,technicallyinclined,comfortableworkingatacomputerforextendedperiods,andabletolearnestimatingandtakeoffsoftware.Priorsheetmetalorestimatingexperienceishelpfulbutnotrequired—wewillteachyouwhatyouneedtoknow.Whatmattersmostisastrongwillingnesstolearnandtheabilitytoretainandapplywhatyouaretaught.Thisrolecallsforaself-motivatedpersonwithastrongworkethicwhocanstayproductivewithminimaldirectsupervision. Thegoalofthispositionistobuildtheknowledgeandexperienceneededtotakeonincreasingestimatingresponsibilitiesand,ultimately,managesheetmetalestimatesindependently. Compensation $25-$28perhour,dependingonexperience. PrimaryResponsibilities Assistestimatorswithductworkestimates. Reviewmechanicaldrawings,specifications,addenda,andbiddocuments. Identifykeyrequirementsinprojectspecificationsandbuildeachestimatearoundtherequiredconstruction. Writescopesofworkthatclearlydefineinclusionsandexclusionsforeachproject. Entertakeoffquantities,labor,material,andpricingintoestimatingsoftware,andbuildsupportingExcelspreadsheets. Communicate,buildrelationships,andfollowupwithvendors. Obtainvendorequipmentquotesaheadofbiddeadlines. Trackbiddates,addenda,drawingrevisions,andotherchangesthroughoutthebiddingprocess. Holdturnovermeetingswithprojectmanagersafterprojectsareawarded. Attendpre-bidmeetings,sitevisits,andjobwalksasneeded. ComputerandTechnologyRequirements Abilitytoworkatacomputerforextendedperiods. Stronggeneralcomputerandtechnologyskills. Abilitytolearnnewsoftwarequickly. Comfortableworkingwithelectronicconstructiondrawingsandspecifications. ProficientinMicrosoftOffice(Excel,Outlook,andWord),orwillingtobecomeproficient.
