Project Controller

About The Role The Project Controller is part of the regional Project controlling team and reports to the regional Head of Project Controlling and Administration. Project Controllers work with Project Managers to minimize commercial risks on projects and maximize revenue and cash flow. The role is responsible for project financials, including contract review, quality assurance of project accounting, expenditure coding, revenue recognition, and work in progress (WIP). It will be located in our Houston, TX office with a hybrid schedule, typically three days per week working from a DNV office or a client location. What You’ll Do Monitors, reports, and advises on project financial status. Proactively initiates timely and accurate invoicing according to customer contracts and in line with agreed global procedures. Acts as a business partner for Project and Line Managers by leading regular financial reviews of projects and portfolios of projects. Ensures revenue is recognized on the project in line with IFRS 15 principles (such as point of completion and time‑and‑material principles) and project accounting principles (matching and accrual principles as well as correct revenue recognition with accurate profit‑margin recognition through the life of the project). Analyzes and challenges input from Project Manager and Line Management where necessary, including proactive follow‑up with PMs on needs for change orders on projects. Conducts monthly review meetings with all PMs to support their management of the project; performs initial review of expenditure detail, initiates and documents PM review, and directs Project Administrators to revise. Manages or assists with project financial records, proactively monitoring projects for completion and closing in a timely manner. Monitors WIP to ensure future collectability and proactively takes actions to minimize losses. Analyzes projects for high‑risk items and informs business controllers where necessary. Follows up on key operational processes in business such as missing timecards. Supports PMs and staff with basic financial queries and increases awareness of commercial topics on projects. Maintains records of work performed on projects to allow for follow‑up by Business Controllers or GSS. Quality‑assures all accounting transactions and documents in a timely manner, in compliance with company guidelines to include Chart of Authority, to ensure that the financial information is reliable. Financially checks projects during the closing phase to balance review with invoice values and check for any write‑offs or windfalls. Associate degree in a finance‑related field, such as accounting, finance, or business administration preferred. Good understanding of finance management of projects and basic knowledge of project management. Ability to influence through persuasion. Quality driven and always looking for improvement opportunities, eager to drive continuous improvement. Highly motivated and energetic with a structured work approach. Moderate experience with Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs. Strong written and verbal English communication skills. We conduct pre‑employment drug and background screenings. What Is Preferred Experience in professional services industry. Knowledge of Salesforce, Teamcenter, Power BI, and/or Oracle ERP. Experience with applying artificial intelligence and machine learning tools to financial processes. Knowledge of Copilot and/or Power BI AI.
