What you will be doing: If you are looking to build a strong foundation in state accounting while making an immediate impact, this Accounting Technician 1 position offers an exciting opportunity to support essential financial operations within the Department of Health. In this role, you will gain hands-on experience processing accounts payable and travel transactions, reconciling financial documents, working in statewide accounting systems, and helping ensure vendors and employees are paid accurately and on time. You will work as part of a collaborative and supportive team where you can develop your knowledge of state fiscal procedures, travel regulations, and accounting practices while receiving guidance from experienced accounting staff. The working environment you can expect: We are centrally located in beautiful downtown Juneau, close to shopping, dining, hiking trails, and the waterfront. This position is located on the 1st floor of the Alaska Office Building.

Who we are looking for: The ideal candidate will possess some or all of the following position-specific competencies in addition to the minimum qualifications listed below:

• Attention to Detail – Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
• Customer Service – Works with clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
• Clerical – Knowledge of filing, typing, entering data, maintaining records, taking shorthand, and using and completing forms.
• Problem Solving – Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations

Minimum Qualifications: One year of clerical work experience maintaining records that included using computer systems and performing basic arithmetic calculations. Substitutions: Successful completion of a formal vocational education program in accounting or bookkeeping will substitute for the required experience. Post-secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month).
