Research Contract / Grant Specialist

Job Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Contract / Grant Specialist for the Office for Research. This position works under the broad direction of the Contract Manager of Research and Sponsored Programs (RSP). The Office for Research supports the research, scholarship, and creative endeavors of all Rutgers faculty by providing integrated, user-focused resources and services. Responsibilities Provides essential services to faculty and staff to ensure external support for their research, training, and public service programs. Consults, advises and reviews all business, administrative, and budgetary aspects of a proposal for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with sponsor regulatory requirements and Rutgers policies. Submits proposals to all federal, state, local government, nonprofit, and for-profit sponsors via RAPSS, sponsor electronic portals, or other approved routes. Acts as liaison between the Principal Investigator and sponsor for clarifications, documentation, and responses to sponsor questions prior to award agreement issuance. Maintains ongoing communication with the PI and administrative support to handle post‑award non‑financial aspects, including award modifications, technical reports, and budget revisions. Reviews, negotiates, and processes awards and is responsible for the Funding Proposals and Awards modules of the Rutgers Research Administration and Proposal Submission System (RAPSS). Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience, and 5 years total administrative work experience, including at least 2 years in grants management or research administration. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of basic sponsor policies and procedures. Familiarity with Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other business software related to grant applications. Preferred Qualifications Certified Research Administration (CRA). Knowledge of electronic research administration programs, federal procurement regulations (FAR and DFAR). Familiarity with software such as Coeus, RAPSS S2S, and common web browsers (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Chrome). Experience with federal and state agency portal submissions, including eBRAP, eRA Commons, FastLane, Grants.gov, and others.
