Job Description
DEFINITION: To plan, organize, and direct the activities of the Accounting Department including data records, accounts payable, payroll, cafeteria accounting, attendance accounting and the general fund; to provide accounting support to all District departments; and to provide highly complex staff assistance to the Assistant Superintendent of Business Services. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: Receives administrative direction from the Assistant Superintendent of Business Services. Exercises direct supervision over supervisory accounting, technical, and support staff. Examples of Duties

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION/TRAINING: (These are the minimum experience and education/training standards which will be used to admit or reject applicants for examination, as approved on November 18, 1998.)
Six years of increasingly responsible professional business management accounting or governmental accounting experience, including two years at the supervisory or managerial level, in an entity with an annual budget of $50 million or more.
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, business administration, public administration or a closely related financial field.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES/REGISTRATIONS A valid California driver's license and auto liability insurance.*

Job Description

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Directs and participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and procedures related to the Accounting Department.
- Selects, supervises, trains and evaluates Accounting staff.
- Directs and participates in the preparation and administration of the department budget.
- Evaluates new accounting system developments in view of the District's plans and objectives; identifies potential areas of improvement achievable through new and improved systems.
- Plans, directs and reviews the activities of financial accounting functions including data records, accounts payable, payroll, cafeteria accounting, attendance accounting, general funds and various other special funds.
- Develops and improves systems and procedures for the effective implementation of business functions.
- Prepares or supervises preparation of analytical studies, reports and surveys.
- Provides assistance and guidance to auditors in matters relating to regular audits of the District's books or special audits as required by state and federal agencies.
- Approves all accounting entries onto the system; approves and acts as authorized District agent on payroll and commercial warrant registers sent to the County School Claims Division for payment.
- Uses personal vehicle for travel to sites where presence is required.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
