Licensed Practical Nurse – Per Diem – Multiple Vacancies Overview Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC), founded in 1971, offers a full continuum of evidence‑based behavioral health and addiction services for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors across New Jersey. With 1,060 staff and 15 sites, UBHC provides inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, crisis stabilization, family support, community outreach, case management, supportive housing, employment support, training, and a licensed therapeutic school. In FY2016, UBHC served 16,199 consumers, recorded 24,502 admissions, and reached 19,441 callers through peer support. The organization also delivers 16,000 trainings annually to state departments such as Human Services, Children and Families, and Corrections. Posting Summary The primary purpose of the per‑diem Licensed Practical Nurse is to deliver technical nursing care to pediatric through adult populations, performing treatments and procedures within established guidelines and ensuring a safe, therapeutic environment. Key duties include: Participate in data collection related to patient status and needs. Provide input to Registered Nurses for incorporation into the plan of care by communicating information pertinent to the patient’s status. Deliver direct patient care within the scope of practice to ensure implementation of the plan of care. Inform and instruct patients/significant others on health/illness state and plan of care. Assist patients/significant others in preparation for discharge and health maintenance at home. Document all aspects of patient care. Contact insurance companies for certification and recertification of patients. Be knowledgeable of and initiate emergency procedures. Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience : Currently licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of New Jersey. Demonstrated strong clinical nursing specialty. Excellent communication skills. PC literate with proficiency in word processing. Leadership abilities required. Preferred Qualifications : At least six months (twelve months preferred) of recent experience as an LPN in an acute care setting. Phlebotomist and/or medical assistant certification. Recent clinical experience in the relevant specialty. Physical Demands and Work Environment Position requires standing 2/3 of the time, walking 2/3 of the time, sitting 1/3 of the time, use of hands to finger, handle or feel 2/3 of the time, reach with hands and arms 1/3 of the time, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl 1/3 of the time, and talk or hear over 2/3 of the time. Work environment includes moderate noise, exposure to blood‑borne and airborne pathogens, unpredictable patient crises, occasional assaultive behaviors, and varying temperatures.
