About History Colorado/AmeriCorps History Colorado serves all Coloradans and offers access to the state’s history through enriching experiences at eleven museums and historic sites, with dynamic and relevant exhibits and activities. We steward about 15 million objects, photographs, and archival resources that make up the State’s collection and serve tens of thousands of learners of all ages through dynamic programs. We work with school groups and youth through field trips, day camps, and traveling programs across the state of Colorado. We’re home to a free public research center, Colorado’s Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (OAHP), and the State Historical Fund (SHF), the nation’s largest preservation program of its kind. The History Colorado AmeriCorps Program endeavors to address three broad areas of community need across the state: equitable K‑12th grade educational outcomes, quality history educational programming, and tools to preserve and share a more inclusive Colorado history. This initiative is part of History Colorado's strategic goals to invest in rural prosperity, strengthen education through history, and share the diverse stories of Colorado's past. AmeriCorps Member Perks A total living allowance up to $18,000 (pre‑tax), distributed in biweekly installments of $720 over the 50‑week service term. Description of Job Position Summary The AmeriCorps member will serve as part of the Education Department at History Colorado Center, working directly under the supervision of the Education Coordinator. The primary focus is to support and deliver high‑impact educational programming to K‑12 students, with an emphasis on equitable access to culturally relevant history education. The member will facilitate Hands‑on History programs, field trips, and other student‑focused educational experiences. As capacity allows, the member may also assist with community events, adult educational programming, and broader outreach initiatives. Terms of Service The member will serve at the History Colorado Center. The AmeriCorps member will complete a minimum of 900 service hours throughout the term, requiring an average of 10–15 hours per week during the school year and 40 hours per week during school breaks. Availability from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. The member will be directly supervised by the Education Coordinator, with additional oversight and support from the Program Manager. Service term: September 8, 2026 to August 20, 2027. Mandatory orientation on September 8 and 9, 2026 at the History Colorado Museum in Denver. Interviews planned for the week of August 10–14, 2026. Major Responsibilities and Duties Facilitate Hands‑On History out‑of‑school camp programming, school‑year field trips, and other educational activities, delivering culturally relevant content aligned to academic standards. Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to the continuous improvement of educational programming. Support curriculum development and manage educational resources to ensure the successful delivery of history lessons. Service Term Overview September 28, 2026 – Required attendance for School Programs Orientation. September 30, 2026 to May 21, 2027 – 10–15 hours per week. December 28–31, 2026 – 32 hours. March 29 to April 2, 2027 – 40 hours. Summer Camps, June – August 2027 – 40 hours per week, including 1 full week of training and 8 weeks of camp; a 1‑week holiday scheduled around July 4th. Minimum Qualifications and Requirements 18 years of age or older. High school diploma or equivalent. A U.S. citizen, U.S. National, or Lawful Permanent Resident. Ability to pass criminal history checks. Strong interest in history, education, or a related field. At least three (3) months of full‑time or equivalent part‑time experience working with school‑age children ages 5‑18 (455 hours). Resume and cover letter.
