Interim Assistant Controller

Interim Assistant Controller Our client, a services-focused organization, is seeking an Interim Assistant Controller to provide leadership and support across core accounting and financial reporting functions. This role is hybrid with in-office expectations 4 days/week in San Jose, CA. This engagement has a duration of 3-6 months. Responsibilities: Oversee day-to-day accounting operations and maintain the integrity of the general ledger and financial records Lead month-end and quarter-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and variance analysis Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules for management reporting purposes Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and established accounting policies and procedures Support accounting for service contracts, recurring revenue arrangements, and related financial activities Analyze operating costs and expenses to support accurate financial reporting and business decision‑making Assist with audit preparation, internal controls, and accounting process improvements Partner with finance and operational stakeholders to provide financial insights and support strategic initiatives Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within a service-based industry environment Strong experience managing general ledger activities and month-end close processes Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and revenue recognition concepts Experience supporting audits, process improvements, and cross‑functional business partnerships; CPA preferred Compensation: Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco by Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors, including but not limited to: The individual’s skill sets, experience, and training; Licensure and certifications; Office location and other geographic considerations; Other business and organizational needs.
