US Client Accounting Lead

This is a fully remote opportunity for an experienced accounting professional to oversee end-to-end accounting operations across a diverse portfolio of clients and industries. You will manage approximately 1020 client accounts, ensuring accurate, timely, and high-quality financial processes. The role combines hands-on cloud accounting expertise with client relationship management, team coordination, coaching, and process improvement. You will work across bookkeeping, payroll, invoicing, bill-pay, sales tax, month-end close, and financial reporting. You will also contribute to new-client onboarding, accounting clean-up, and service delivery improvements. Accountabilities

• Oversee full-charge bookkeeping and finance processes for a portfolio of approximately 1020 clients, including invoicing, bill-pay, payroll processing, monthly close, sales tax, year-end preparation, and financial reporting.
• Manage accounting activities for both cash- and accrual-basis clients, maintaining accurate records and detailed, audit-ready schedules for non-bank balance sheet accounts.
• Serve as the primary accounting contact for assigned clients, responding to questions, providing guidance, and identifying opportunities to improve financial processes.
• Coordinate with support team members by scheduling and delegating work, reviewing deliverables, answering questions, and providing clear, empathetic coaching.
• Review the accounting records of prospective clients, identify historical errors and clean-up requirements, and support accurate engagement pricing.
• Develop and manage onboarding and clean-up plans for new clients, delegating tasks and ensuring a smooth transition into established accounting processes.
• Continuously identify opportunities to improve workflows, service quality, efficiency, and consistency across client engagements.
• Maintain clear communication with clients and colleagues through digital channels while keeping projects and accounting deliverables on track.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience managing multiple clients across different industries in a cloud accounting environment.
• At least 4 years of hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online, BILL, Gusto, and other commonly used cloud accounting platforms.
• Strong knowledge of accrual accounting, including month-end close processes, reconciliations, balance sheet schedules, payroll, and financial reporting.
• Experience managing accounting processes from onboarding and clean-up through ongoing bookkeeping, reporting, and year-end preparation.
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA firm or public accounting experience is a plus.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients and distributed teams through digital channels.
• Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality.
• Strong problem-solving and resourcefulness, combined with good judgment about when to seek collaboration or support.
• Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and develop junior accounting professionals with patience and clarity.
• A positive, collaborative approach and willingness to receive and provide constructive feedback.
• Strong organizational skills and persistence when coordinating multiple client priorities and deadlines.
• Comfortable working independently in a fully remote environment with reliable internet and a professional setting suitable for video and phone calls.
• Availability five days per week during standard professional hours, with weekly hours potentially fluctuating by approximately 35 hours based on client demand.
• Willingness to work on a W-2 basis and dedicate professional accounting work to the role without taking on additional paid accounting or bookkeeping engagements.
