Job Description Location: Henry Ford St John Hospital, 22101 Moross Rd, Detroit, MI 48236 Schedule: Contingent Days, A minimum of three shifts per six week scheduling period or based on unit practice. General Summary: As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, you'll work under the direction of a Radiologist to master specialized imaging procedures using various isotopes. You'll apply independent judgment to determine optimal imaging techniques, patient positioning, and safety protocols while delivering exceptional diagnostic results that directly impact patient care. Principal Duties And Responsibilities Patient Care & Communication Engage with patients by clearly explaining examination procedures and preparing them for their imaging experience. Gather comprehensive patient medical history information to optimize diagnostic accuracy. Technical Expertise & Equipment Management Prepare and optimize procedure rooms, maintaining well-stocked supplies and equipment for seamless operations. Prepare prescribed radioactive isotopes for safe patient administration. Calibrate detection equipment for isotope sensitivity prior to patient administration. Manually control imaging equipment with precision to capture diagnostic information for targeted body areas. Perform quality assurance procedures to maintain equipment reliability and imaging quality. Diagnostic Imaging & Image Processing Review clinical requisition data and analyze patient anatomy to establish appropriate protocols and set up equipment for Nuclear Medicine scans. Execute imaging procedures while consistently applying radiation protection principles—including patient shielding, optimal equipment settings, and ALARA techniques to minimize radiation exposure. Pre- and post-process images to ensure diagnostic quality and clarity. Resolve image exceptions and ensure high-quality image delivery into PACS; verify image and series counts for accuracy. Complete all study indexing in the Radiology Information System (RIS), including study begin, end, and completion documentation. Procedural Support & Collaboration Prepare and set up sterile equipment, monitors, and supplies for complex procedures. Assist the Radiologist in performing advanced diagnostic procedures, including biopsies and other invasive procedures. Review and confirm clinical protocols with the Radiologist before performing studies. Documentation & Team Excellence Complete all medical record documentation and radiology information system entries to support clinical accuracy and billing functions. Demonstrate consistent excellence through AIDET principles, open communication, timely responsiveness, positive attitude, innovation, and respect for diversity. Qualifications EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required. Must be registered (or registry eligible) in Nuclear Medicine by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) and/or The Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB). If registry eligible, registry must be obtained within 12 months of date of hire. Failure to obtain registry within designated timeframe will result in termination of the Nuclear Medicine Technologist position. Must maintain required hours of continued medical education.
