About the Role Our client, a dynamic manufacturing firm, is seeking a talented Automation and Control Systems Engineer to join their innovative team in Welkom, Free State, ZA. This role is central to enhancing our production efficiency and integrating advanced control solutions into our manufacturing processes. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining automated systems, including PLCs, SCADA, and robotics, to optimize performance and ensure operational continuity. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, allowing for flexibility while ensuring essential on-site collaboration. You'll work on exciting projects that involve upgrading existing systems and developing new automated solutions to meet evolving production demands. We are looking for a proactive individual eager to drive technological advancements in our facility. Key Responsibilities Design, program, and implement PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) systems for various industrial automation applications. Develop and configure SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems for monitoring and controlling plant operations. Integrate robotic systems and other automated equipment into the production line. Troubleshoot and resolve automation and control system issues, minimizing downtime and ensuring optimal performance. Perform system upgrades, modifications, and enhancements to improve efficiency, reliability, and safety. Conduct root cause analysis for automation-related failures and implement effective solutions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, maintenance, and engineering, to define automation requirements and project scope. Develop and maintain technical documentation, including system designs, programming code, and operational manuals. Stay updated with the latest advancements in automation technology and industry best practices. Provide training and support to operations and maintenance personnel on automated systems. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field. Proven experience (5+ years) in industrial automation and control systems engineering. Proficiency in programming various PLC platforms (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Omron). Experience with SCADA software (e.g., WinCC, Ignition, Wonderware). Knowledge of industrial networks (e.g., Profibus, Ethernet/IP) and communication protocols. Familiarity with robotics programming and integration is a strong asset. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a meticulous approach to detail. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
