The Nursing Shift Manager (NSM) is a licensed Registered Nurse responsible for managing the unit throughout their shift, ensuring smooth operations and adherence to safety and quality standards.

Adhere to established policies related to patient safety, including infection prevention, safe patient handling, and critical lab notifications to maintain an optimal care environment.

Monitor and coach staff compliance with safety protocols and quality measures, providing constructive feedback and education as needed.

Maintain central lines and prevent surgical site infections according to policy guidelines.

Deliver quality nursing care encompassing medication administration, nursing interventions, and patient and family education.

Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments to monitor status, enhance safety, and communicate findings effectively to the healthcare team.

Review and co-sign admission assessments completed by LPN staff, ensuring accuracy and quality.

Utilize critical thinking to identify areas for improvement and guide patient care staff to meet quality outcomes and patient satisfaction goals.

Document all patient care activities and quality monitoring accurately to support compliance with established standards.

Communicate pertinent patient information to physicians and team members to improve outcomes and enhance the patient experience.

Address patient care concerns professionally and perform service recovery when necessary.

Delegate responsibilities appropriately while fostering teamwork and accountability among staff.

Adapt positively to changes within the healthcare environment, supporting the organization's mission and values.

Engage in ongoing education and provide professional feedback to improve nursing practice.

Graduation from an accredited nursing program is required. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.

At least one year of registered nursing experience is preferred.

Current RN license valid in the state or through compact licensure.

Graduate nurses must obtain licensure within 90 days of graduation.

American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification required.

This role demands considerable mental focus and physical activity, including lifting up to 35 pounds, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Frequent exposure to infectious diseases and potentially hostile individuals may occur. Exposure to communicable diseases through blood and body fluids is common, with minimal physical discomfort expected.
