Director of Development Position Summary: The Director of Development serves as a liaison between the School of Nursing and University Development. The position serves as the School of Nursing’s chief development officer and is responsible for establishing and overseeing the development team, securing philanthropic support across all giving levels, and providing strategy, leadership, direction, coordination, and management of all aspects of giving for the School of Nursing, including major giving, annual gifts, stewardship, and alumni relations. Primary emphasis is placed on the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gifts (≥$50,000) and principal gifts (≥$1,000,000) to advance the school’s mission and support the implementation of its development programs and strategic initiatives. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and 8 years of professional experience. Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree preferred; or bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five (5) of the required eight (8) years of professional experience in higher education fundraising or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in sales, marketing, development, business administration, higher education, project management, or relationship management, with demonstrated success in cultivating and soliciting major gifts. Previous work experience in higher education and in a hybrid centralized-decentralized fundraising model involving colleges/schools. Demonstrated experience developing fundraising strategies while providing leadership and direction for implementation of a comprehensive development plan. Leadership in a major capital campaign. Experience in a startup or entrepreneurial venture; proven case of building something up that was either new or underperforming. Knowledge and experience using Blackbaud CRM system. Exhibits behavior that supports the mission, vision, and values of the University of Georgia. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies Progressively responsible fundraising or related experience and leadership experience, including work in all functional areas of development. Demonstrated track record of successful frontline fundraising (discovery through solicitation and stewardship). Strength in developing and executing strategic and comprehensive fundraising plans to achieve goals; experience working with senior administration and ability to effectively strategize and engage various groups and constituents. Demonstrated supervisory, organization, time management, and interpersonal skills. Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, presentation) and active listening. Ability to deliver an effective and consistent message; a communication style that is open, cordial, and compelling. Ability to develop trust and strong collaborative working relationships; experience nurturing and motivating high-level volunteers and expressing appreciation for their role in building an effective development network. Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and ability to manage and work collaboratively. Self-starter, takes initiative, and can work independently as well as in a team environment. Detail-oriented, excellent memory for details, and critical thinking skills. Ability to prioritize, work with, and complete multiple tasks simultaneously under deadlines. Proficiency using Microsoft Office software, for instance, MS Word and Excel. Demonstrates a commitment to outstanding customer service; Must work well in dealing with a variety of personality types. Communicates and employs interpersonal actions that model high standards of professional, responsible, accountable, and ethical conduct. Communicate effectively in writing, speaking, and listening. Organize and establish priorities; remember detail; multi-task. Lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Walk, stand, stoop, lift, kneel, climb.
