POSITION OVERVIEW: 

The Education and Community Engagement Manager support the connection between education systems, community based supports, and families throughout Hudson County. This role focuses on education advocacy, community engagement, and cross-sector collaboration to improve outcomes for children, youth, and families. It will support educational initiatives, help maintain key community partnerships, assist with designated programs, and collaborate with staff in delivering high-quality, family-centered services as part of the child and family team.

Key Responsibilities

Educational Advocacy & Student Support

• Serve as the organization’s lead resource on educational matters impacting children and families, including:
• Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
• Section 504 Plans
• School disciplinary processes and disciplinary meetings
• Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying (HIB) investigations and related procedures
• Provide guidance and support to staff and families navigating school systems and educational challenges.
• Assist in developing strategies to improve school attendance, student engagement, and academic success.
• Partners with school based mental health programs including programs such as NJ4S, SPARK, effective school Solutions, Full-Service Community schools, and other mental health provider agencies pushed into schools.
• Provide community-based support to families in accessing Perform Care including supporting families with initial phone calls.

Out-of-Home (OOH) School Connection & Transition Support

• Demonstrate understanding of the Out-of-Home (OOH) school connection process and educational continuity requirements.
• Prepare and review Letters of Intent and related educational documentation to support timely school placements and transitions.
• Partner with CFT to communicate with school regarding the youth’s educational plan while attending OOH program in advance of admission.
• Collaborate with schools, caregivers, and internal teams to ensure smooth educational transitions for youth.

Community Engagement & Partnership Development

• Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with:
• Local school districts and individual schools
• Public libraries
• Family Success Centers
• Community-based organizations and service providers throughout Hudson County
• Represent the organization at community meetings, outreach initiatives, and public events.
• Coordinate and attend community events that strengthen organizational visibility and community impact.

Program Oversight

• Provide leadership and oversight for the COVE, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, strong program implementation, and meaningful community impact.
• Monitor program outcomes and identify opportunities for innovation and growth.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:  

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Counseling, Human Services, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
• Demonstrated knowledge of education systems, including IEPs and 504 Plans.
• Experience managing or supporting HIB investigations and student disciplinary processes.
• Understanding of the OOH school connection process and experience preparing Letters of Intent.
• Experience as a care manager or in a comparable family-serving role.
• Strong community relationship-building experience across educational and human service sectors.
• Excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends for community events.
• Prior team leadership or supervisory experience.
• Familiarity with Hudson County schools and community resources.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer 
• Ability to lift 25 pounds 
• Must be comfortable with driving.  
• Required to go into the community and into families’ homes 
• Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. 
• Must be able to travel/drive up to 50% of the time
