Every commercial real estate deal ends two ways. The property changes hands, and someone earns the client's next phone call. If you've been doing the work that earns that call, this firm wants it coming to you.

I'm a recruiter at Distinct Recruitment, hiring on behalf of a Raleigh law firm for an experienced commercial real estate attorney. This one is built for a lawyer who wants to grow a practice, not just a billable total. Here's what caught my attention.

Why it's worth a move

• The firm actively wants you to build your own book. Business development isn't something you do on your own time. It's part of the job, and the firm backs it.
• You run deals from inception to closing. Lots of client contact, minimal supervision. If you're already doing the work, this is where you get credit for it.
• The mix is broad. Acquisitions, dispositions, financing, development and leasing all come through, so your practice can follow your clients wherever their next project goes.
• The firm describes itself as collaborative and business minded. That matters when your clients are developers and investors who want a lawyer who understands the deal, not just the documents.

What your week looks like

• Drafting and negotiating purchase and sale agreements, so your client goes into the deal protected and comes out with what they paid for.
• Working through financing documents, from term sheet to the closing set.
• Negotiating development agreements, where the timing, approvals and obligations need to hold up for years.
• Handling commercial leases on both sides of the table.
• Drafting and reviewing disclosure agreements.
• Running transactions end to end. Timelines, closing checklists and the other side's counsel all move to your schedule.
• Being the person the client calls first. That's the relationship this role is designed around.

About that salary range

• The firm is hiring across two levels.
• Nearer $130,000: an experienced associate who already runs transactions alone and wants a platform to start building on.
• Nearer $260,000: someone with established client relationships, or work that follows them.
• Where you land depends on the deals you run and the clients you bring.

Who they want

• Significant experience handling complex commercial real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, financing, development and leasing.
• The confidence to run a deal without someone looking over your shoulder.
• An interest in building a practice. Existing relationships help, but appetite counts too.
