Shop Service Technician 4 - Heavy Equipment

Holt CAT, the largest Caterpillar dealership of heavy equipment in the United States, is seeking an experienced heavy construction equipment Shop Service Technician for its Little Elm, Texas location at 27600 E University Dr., Aubrey, TX 76227. This mid‑level position—requiring more than seven years of relevant experience—offers a Monday‑to‑Friday schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and focuses on providing high‑quality repair service on heavy construction equipment in a shop environment. Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment malfunctions and failures. Disassembles and assembles machine components to manufacturer’s specifications using hand tools, pneumatic tools, and specialized tooling. Rebuilds, repairs, reconditions, and maintains equipment and components. Demonstrates good customer relations and support; communicates customer needs to shop management. Plans and controls cost of repair jobs. Completes parts orders and identifies parts for return. Provides a significant amount of task and behavior‑oriented mentoring and training to others. Maintains all equipment and work areas—keeps them in good, clean, and orderly condition. Completes all documents associated with repairs in a timely manner. Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with company policies, procedures, and standards. Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, e.g., ProTech Technician Training Paths. Requires regular and punctual employee attendance. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Extensive knowledge of dirt machines and tools, including designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Knowledge of heavy equipment machines such as dozers, excavators, motor graders, and other dirt‑moving equipment preferred. Knowledge of repairing, troubleshooting, and diagnosing emission systems. Knowledge of electrical and hydraulic systems repair, troubleshooting, and diagnosing. Knowledge of shop safety practices and LOTO protocols. Proficient with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems—CAT ET and CAT SIS. Quality control analysis skills—conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance and communicate findings. Operation and control skills—controlling operations of equipment or systems. Equipment selection skills—determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job. Ability to operate a conventional forklift and an overhead crane. Ability to quickly and repeatedly operate the controls of a machine or vehicle to exact positions. Ability to operate hand, power, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair. Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects. Ability to read, write, and understand information. Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. Must have or acquire basic mechanic hand and pneumatic tools (metric/standard). Requirements Seven or more years of diesel‑powered heavy equipment repair experience (preferred). Ability and knowledge to read/use schematics and diagrams (preferred). High school diploma or equivalent (preferred). Graduation from a diesel technology program (preferred). Supervisory responsibilities: None. Travel: Some travel is expected. Physical Requirements: Must be able to move objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue; frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; constant movement and use of limbs; good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina; ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress on one’s own; maneuvers safely and works underneath equipment; reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals; visual inspection required. Work Environment: Regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts; may be exposed to weather extremes when working outside—including inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity; noise level may be loud; exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high‑pressure water, and high‑speed rotating equipment; requires wearing common protective or safety equipment; required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places.
