Position Description

The nursing staff is required to wear Caribbean Blue scrubs as a condition of employment. This position reports to the Director of Nursing (DON) and involves working collaboratively with physicians, nursing staff, residents, families, and other facility departments to provide personalized nursing care for residents within a skilled nursing facility. The responsibilities of this position may be modified or adjusted at the discretion of management.

Position Qualifications

• A valid California nursing license in good standing.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Strong physical health, including the ability to walk, bend, lift, and perform manual skills necessary for patient care.
• Good mental health, with the capacity to manage challenging behaviors from patients who may be confused or exhibit verbally or physically abusive behaviors.
• Adaptable and able to follow directives with a willingness to embrace change.
• Proficient in English, both verbally and in writing, with adequate hearing and vision to perform job functions.
• Dependable with a strong attendance record.
• Strong assessment skills and ability to manage emergency situations resourcefully.
• Committed to continuing education and self-improvement.
• Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills, both written and oral.
• A cooperative team player who respects confidentiality, values others' time, and is accountable for their work.

Specific Competencies

• Conduct individualized patient assessments, prioritizing data collection based on immediate needs, and inform the Charge Nurse and Physician of any abnormal findings.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop an individualized patient care plan.
• Administer treatments as ordered by the physician quickly and accurately.
• Perform assigned tasks competently, including EKGs, blood draws, and IV starts; keep work areas clean and stocked.
• Provide personalized education to patients and their families.
• Follow facility protocols for medication administration and maintain accurate documentation of such tasks.
• Document patient assessments, responses to interventions, and progress toward resolution of issues.
• Initiate emergency procedures in accordance with established protocols and document all actions taken.
• Preserve patient confidentiality and deliver care in a sensitive, respectful manner that recognizes diverse backgrounds.
• Report patient conditions to appropriate personnel during each shift.
• Follow safety and infection control standards while delivering patient care.
• Assist nursing staff in other departments as needed, if qualified.
• Conduct nursing procedures adhering to safety and infection control protocols.
• Maintain current CPR certification and participate in ongoing education.
• Coordinate patient transfers for procedures or diagnostics with appropriate departments.
• Participate in orienting new staff and contributing to staff education as required.
• Maintain high standards of patient care and communicate any concerns through the proper channels.
• Attend mandatory training sessions and keep skills current.
• Adhere to scheduled rounds for continuity of care and document observations as necessary.
