Medical Support AssistantThe Medical Support Assistant (MSA) position serves as the Support Clerk for the Emergency Department, Inpatient Wards, Reception, as well as the Community Based Outpatient Clinics. The MSA serves as the receptionist for all persons reporting for medical care or for general specific information and will direct persons to the proper source of information for various clinics and/or services located throughout the Medical Center. The primary duties of the Medical Support Assistant may include but are not limited to:Interviews Veterans and prepares applications for medical benefits.Performs typing and computer entry functions as necessaryPrepare patient data cardsPerforms inpatient admission processing ensuring proper identification of patientAdvises clinical staff on current administrative processesAnswers incoming phone calls from patients to answer questions and relay messages to appropriate medical staffParticipates in huddles with other MSAs and/or clinic staffSchedules, cancels and reschedules appointments or consults including interpreting and verifying provider orders in accordance with VHA national scheduling guidelines.Interprets and verifies provider ordersMonitors appointment requests from multiple electronic sourcesCoordinates administrative functions relating to emergency and non-emergency transfers to other Veterans Affairs (VA) facilities or private hospitals and determines appointment type based on the patient's eligibility status (e.g., TRICARE, sharing agreements, collaterals, research patient, VA employee, etc.)Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday - Friday, subject to change based on the needs of the serviceRecruitment/Relocation Incentives (Sign-on Bonus): Not AuthorizedPermanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not AuthorizedPay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases.
