Bridge Inspection Team Leader

Responsibilities Conduct initial, routine, in-depth, and fracture-critical bridge inspections throughout South Carolina for federal, state, local agencies and private owners using the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and other relevant standards. Lead, plan, and coordinate inspection teams, including the use of various access techniques such as rope/SHP, helicopters, and drones, to complete thorough field inspections of bridges, culverts, overhead sign structures, metal traffic signal poles, and other in-service infrastructure. Prepare detailed bridge inspection reports, summarizing outcomes and condition assessments for each inspection, and develop technical charts and documentation as required. Perform dynamic scheduling of on-site inspections, including the potential for daytime and nighttime field work, and occasional overnight stays. Analyze live‑load rating of bridge and tunnel structures (if desired) covering concrete, steel, timber, masonry arches, and culverts of varying complexity. Maintain accurate records, update project plans, and adhere to all safety, quality, and documentation protocols. Preferred Qualifications Relevant industry certifications. Ability to interpret construction schedules. 5 years of bridge inspection experience (with an Associate’s Degree). 2 years of bridge inspection experience (with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and EIT). Completion of FHWA‑NHI Course: Safety Inspection of In‑Service Bridges. Strong communication skills, self‑motivation, organization, flexibility, and team orientation. Commitment to quality, accuracy, safety, and efficiency. Valid driver’s license and safe driving record. Willingness to travel and perform field work in challenging environments. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; 8 years of construction inspection experience may substitute for a diploma. Minimum 3 years of experience in bridge inspection or related field. Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Proven problem‑solving and documentation abilities. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Commitment to employee‑owned culture and values. Physical ability to perform field inspections of in‑service bridges, culverts, overhead sign structures, and metal traffic signal poles, including use of extension ladders and small boats. Exposure to environmental hazards such as hot and cold temperatures, snakes, spiders, poison oak and ivy, and enclosed or traffic‑heavy work environments. Safety consciousness and responsibility for personal and team safety. Schedule Full‑time. Dynamic schedule with a mix of daytime, nighttime, and occasional overnight field work, and office work for report generation. Locations South Carolina – Charleston, Greenville, Columbia, or Fort Mill offices; travel to other South Carolina locations or occasionally nationwide.
