Family Involvement Coordinator - GEAR UP

Job Summary Under the general supervision of the GEAR UP Assistant Director, the Family Involvement Coordinator (FIC) will provide direct services to middle and high school students across the Pajaro Valley, North Monterey County, and South Monterey County. The FIC works independently with schools and community partners to plan and implement academic preparation programming, build program visibility, and foster collaborative relationships among K‑14 and higher‑education institutions. Job Duties Outreach (55%) Delivers college‑going workshops to parents and families at community and school events. Plans and implements college‑going field trips and activities. Facilitates recruitment for events. Develops student academic plans to ensure post‑secondary admission eligibility. Designs and implements grade‑appropriate college‑going workshops, curricula, materials, and activities. Maintains relationships with parents/families to support student academic success and access to higher education. Advocates for students and parents. Provides parent and family support for student high school completion and enrollment in higher education. Administrative and Data Tracking (20%) Produces program reports and collects student data, documents participant contacts, and tracks academic progress of program participants. Prepares necessary forms and documentation for accounting, processing, and capturing expenditures and in‑kind support. Completes additional tasks as required for the GEAR UP program’s progress. Collaboration (15%) Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with other college‑going programs and K‑14 higher‑education personnel. Conducts regular meetings with school personnel to foster collaboration on shared goals. Serves on departmental, organizational, and external committees, workgroups, and coordinating bodies. Participates in strategic and program planning. Supervision (10%) Hires, trains, and supervises part‑time student and summer staff. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Experience designing, managing, or implementing projects that improve enrollment of low‑income and underserved students in rigorous academic programs. Experience designing, implementing, and monitoring academic/enrichment programs or events. Knowledge of educational equity programs serving diverse student populations. Knowledge of K‑12 and higher‑education institutions, admissions, and financial aid requirements, and ability to interpret policies for youth, parents, and school representatives. Significant knowledge of high‑school graduation and college entrance requirements. Demonstrated cultural competency regarding race, ethnicity, and socio‑economic status. Excellent written communication skills. Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to establish cooperative relationships with school district administrators, counselors, principals, teachers, parents, and community contacts. Bilingual in English and Spanish (written and verbal). Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of issues facing low‑income, first‑generation youth and/or their families. Significant experience advising and supporting disadvantaged students and families regarding post‑secondary opportunities and careers. Knowledge of current K‑12 and higher‑education policies and issues, with the ability to assess their impact on program strategies. Benefits Full benefits eligibility. Schedule & Work Location Full‑time, fixed position: 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday during daylight hours. This hybrid role requires a minimum of four days of in‑person work at school sites, with additional evening or weekend work as needed.
