Coordinator, Basic Needs & Advocacy plays a key role in supporting and coordinating services that help students meet their essential needs, including access to food, housing, transportation, mental health, and emergency financial support. The coordinator serves as a connector across departments and external agencies, manages outreach and intake processes, and ensures timely referrals and tracking of support services.Job Description:Supervision Received and ExercisedOperates under the direct supervision of the department manager or designated supervisor. While the role does not typically include formal supervisory responsibilities, the Coordinator may oversee limited hourly staff, including interns and temporary employees, and coordinate schedules. They may provide guidance to junior staff or new hires as part of onboarding and training processes. The position is expected to work independently on routine tasks while seeking direction for more complex assignments.Competency ExpectationsCoordinate activities within programmatic area and/or department.Create, maintain, and execute detailed plans for small-to medium-sized activities, initiatives, and/or projects.Coordinate college personnel (possibly including outside personnel or industry partners) to support the planning, delivery, and execution of programs; coordinate schedules, hourly staff, materials, and participant documentation to ensure smooth operations and successful outcomes.Support essential operational coordination for department.May be expected to train, coach, direct, and coordinate assigned personnel while adhering to organizational human resource policies and procedures, as well as related employment laws.Description of Duties and TasksServe as the initial point of contact for students seeking basic needs resources.Conduct intake assessments to understand student needs and connect them with appropriate services.Provide case coordination and follow-up to ensure continuity of care and service delivery, including advocacy with campus and community partners to address barriers to student success.Make informed recommendations for emergency funding support based on student need, eligibility, and available resources.Maintain accurate and confidential student records in accordance with FERPA and institutional policy.Coordinate logistics for programs such as food pantries, emergency housing programs, and resource fairs.Support the management and distribution of emergency aid and gift cards.Assist in the tracking and inventory of supplies and donations.Maintain systems for tracking service usage, referrals, and outcomes (e.g., database, case management software).Generate reports and data summaries to support program assessment and improvement.Help design and distribute outreach materials (flyers, emails, social media posts).Conduct presentations or workshops for students, staff, and faculty about available basic needs resources.Participate in campus-wide efforts to raise awareness about student basic needs and destigmatize help-seeking.Develop outreach strategies that are culturally responsive and reduce stigma around accessing basic needs support.Collaborate with campus departments such as Financial Aid, Health Services, Counseling, and Student Life.Coordinate with community organizations and social service agencies for off-campus referrals.Attend relevant meetings and training to stay current on resources and best practices.Job RequirementsKnowledge:Understand and apply administrative procedures, principles, and practices.Utilize organizing and planning practices.Operate learning management Knowledge:Familiarity with issues related to college student success and barriers such as food/housing insecurity.Skills:Effectively use interpersonal and communication skills, including tact and diplomacy with constituencies.Effectively use organizational, managerial and event planning skills with attention to detail and follow-through.Maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials.Resolve scheduling and/or resource deployment issues and conflicts.Focus on achieving optimum levels of service and maintaining high ethical standards and attention to compliance with college policies and regulations.Demonstrate initiative and determination to provide valuable and timely services.Exhibit exceptional phone, email, written and oral communication, customer service and organizational skills.Demonstrate effective communications and professional engagement with students and employees from a wide range of backgrounds.Possess supervisory, coaching and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to think independently and proactively solve problems.Intermediate/advanced proficiency using standard office software applications.Supplemental Skills:Demonstrate degree.Four (4) years of related work experience or an Associate’s degree plus two (2) years of related work experience may be substituted for the required education (plus the required experience noted below).Preferred Education:Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, Education, or related field.Experience:1 year of related experience.Preferred Experience:Working in student services, social services, or related support roles.Bilingual or multilingual (especially Spanish or other locally spoken languages).Familiarity with public assistance programs (e.g., SNAP, housing assistance).Working with case management or referral tracking systems.Experience in a higher education setting, particularly underserved student populations.Supplemental Experience:Master’s degree or four (4) years of related experience may satisfy the minimum education requirements.Physical Demands and Work EnvironmentPhysical Demands:Standard office environment.Work Environment:This
