Role Description The Referral Coordinator is a full-time, on-site role based in Queens, NY, responsible for managing patient referrals and ensuring seamless coordination of care. Day-to-day tasks include processing referrals from providers, verifying insurance coverage and authorization requirements, and scheduling appointments with external specialists and service providers. The role involves communicating with patients, healthcare teams, and insurance companies to clarify referral details, follow up on pending authorizations, and address questions. The Referral Coordinator maintains accurate documentation in electronic health records, tracks referral status, and supports care coordination efforts to promote timely access to needed services. This position requires consistent, professional interaction with patients and staff, adherence to confidentiality standards, and collaboration with clinical and administrative teams. Qualifications Candidates should possess strong Insurance Verification skills, including understanding coverage, authorizations, and referral requirements. Candidates should demonstrate excellent Customer Service and Communication skills to support patients and collaborate with clinical and administrative staff. Candidates should have professional Phone Etiquette skills for handling high call volumes, making outbound calls, and managing appointment and referral inquiries. Candidates should possess a working knowledge of Medical Terminology to accurately process referrals and coordinate care across different specialties. Relevant skills such as proficiency with electronic health records (EHR), attention to detail, time management, and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment are beneficial. Prior experience in a healthcare setting, especially in referrals, scheduling, or front-desk operations, is preferred. High school diploma or equivalent is required; additional training or coursework in healthcare administration or medical office procedures is a plus.
