Assistant Controller

Enrich the lives of older adults through community, choice, and continuing care in the Assistant Controller role. The Assistant Controller manages the day-to-day accounting operations for assigned senior-living communities or regions. This role ensures accurate and timely processing of routine accounting functions, supports the month-end close, and provides clear financial insights to community leadership. You will provide continuing care through these responsibilities:

Accounting Operations & Close

• Manage daily accounting functions, including AP, AR, GL, and fixed assets.
• Execute month-end close tasks: reconciliations, accruals/deferrals, subledger reviews, and close checklist completion.
• Prepare and review community-level or departmental financials and support corporate consolidation.

Internal Controls & Compliance

• Execute internal controls such as reconciliations, approvals, and documentation.
• Support control testing and maintain process documentation ("SOX-lite").
• Maintain desk-level procedures and propose process improvements.

Revenue Cycle

• Ensure accurate census interfaces and postings, payer-mix reconciliations, and RA/EOB applications.
• Monitor billing accuracy and collaborate with revenue cycle teams.

Resident Trust Funds

• Perform monthly reconciliations of trust accounts and ensure compliance with state requirements.

Budgeting & Financial Planning

• Prepare run-rate and variance analyses for monthly community reviews.
• Load budgets or forecast updates into accounting systems.

Audit, Regulatory & Reporting Support

• Coordinate audit PBC lists, support samples, and provide reconciliations.
• Assist with regulatory filings, cost reports, and Medicaid/MCR tie-outs as assigned.

Operational Partnership

• Provide monthly financial packages to Executive Directors and Regional teams.
• Explain financial variances and identify operational improvement opportunities.

Systems & Data

• Serve as a superuser for GL/AP modules; maintain charts of accounts and community setups.
• Produce standard KPIs (DSO, DPO, census accuracy, days cash) as required.

Our requirements and qualifications for success

Required

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Strong operational accounting foundation; senior living or healthcare experience preferred.
• Experience supervising accountants, clerks, or community accounting staff.
• Proficiency with ERP and subledger systems; strong Excel skills.
• Meticulous with effective communication and customer service skills.

Preferred

• CPA or CPA-eligible
• Experience with Medicaid/Medicare cost reporting
• Experience supporting multi-entity or multi-site operations
• Familiarity with Washington State regulatory environment for healthcare or long-term care

Physical, environmental, and mental requirements

• Office-based with occasional travel to communities (if applicable)
• Standard business hours with additional time during close cycles or audits
• Give full attention to what other people are saying, take time to understand the points being made, ask questions as appropriate, and refrain from interrupting at inappropriate times.
• Ability to sit, stand, or walk at-will throughout shift; lift up to 25 lbs.
• Ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds one-to-one, in groups, and via telephone or computer.
• Ability to perform keyboarding tasks and maintain both near and far vision acuity.
• Ability to maintain concentration and emotional evenness.

Salary Range: $113,247.26 to $159,887.31 per year
