Youth & Young Adult Shelter Manager

Pay Range: $65,000-75,000 per year

Job Description: We are seeking a committed and innovative leader to help oversee the Northern Colorado regional youth shelter in Loveland, called The Landing. You will be a pivotal member of the team to grow this long-awaited and much-needed service in our community. The Youth & Young Adult Shelter Manager is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the daily operations of The Landing, The Matthews House’s trauma-informed regional shelter serving youth and young adults ages 15-20. The Shelter Manager ensures the program provides a safe, welcoming, and developmentally responsive environment that meets participants’ immediate needs while supporting progress toward housing stability, education, employment, permanent connections, and long-term self-sufficiency. Through direct supervision of shelter staff, close coordination with case management, education, and housing teams, and consistent adherence to licensing, safety, and program standards, the Youth & Young Adult Shelter Manager promotes reliable operations, accountability, and a strong culture of care.

Reports to: Youth and Young Adult Director

Job Location: Loveland, CO

QUALIFICATIONS:

• A bachelor’s degree in psychology, Social Work, Child Development, Sociology, or Counseling is required. A graduate degree in Psychology, Social Work, Child Development, Sociology, or Counseling is preferred.
• 4+ years of experience in shelter operations, youth services, residential programs, or a related human services field, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role, is required. 3+ years of experience leading trauma-informed, youth or young adult shelter or residential programs within nonprofit or public sector settings is preferred.
• Must be able to transport and have a clean driving record.
• Must pass a CBI/FBI fingerprint screening and drug test.
• Knowledge of local community and resources preferred.
• Bilingual/bicultural Spanish speaker is preferred but not required.

Essential Duties and Major Responsibilities

Shelter Operations & Safety Leadership – 30%

• Oversee daily shelter operations, including staffing coverage, shift schedules, safety protocols, and incident response.
• Ensure consistent implementation of trauma-informed, harm-reduction, and youth-centered practices.
• Maintain a physically and emotionally safe environment.

Staff Supervision & Team Development – 25%

• Supervise floor staff, overnight staff, and program leads.
• Provide reflective supervision, onboarding, training, and performance management.
• Foster a collaborative, accountable, and supportive team culture.

Participant Experience & Program Coordination – 15%

• Coordinate with case managers, housing navigators, clinicians, and aftercare staff to ensure participants receive holistic, coordinated services.
• Support routine-building, life skills programming, and youth engagement activities within the shelter.

Compliance, Licensing & Documentation – 15%

• Ensure compliance with state licensing, organizational policies, and funder requirements.
• Oversee incident reporting, shelter logs, audits, and documentation in Community Care Link (CCL) and HMIS (if applicable).
• Maintain audit-ready systems.

Facilities, Supplies & Vendor Coordination – 10%

• Manage shelter facilities, supplies, and vendor relationships (e.g., food service, maintenance, security, laundry).
• Coordinate with operations and property partners to ensure a clean, functional, and welcoming space.

Community Partnerships & Systems Coordination – 5%

• Maintain relationships with schools, law enforcement, behavioral health providers, healthcare partners, and referral agencies to support safe admissions, coordinated care, and continuity of services.

Assist with other duties as assigned.

SCHEDULE:

• Schedule will be generally Monday-Friday, with some evening availability required and rotating weekend on-call responsibilities.
• Work will be completed in the youth shelter and throughout the community.
