About the Role:

The SCO PSC/MA Float position plays a critical role in supporting healthcare operations by providing flexible and skilled medical assistance across various departments within healthcare facilities. This role ensures continuity of patient care by adapting to different clinical settings and performing a wide range of medical and administrative tasks as needed. The successful candidate will contribute to efficient patient flow, accurate documentation, and effective communication between patients and healthcare providers. By floating between units, the individual helps to address staffing shortages and maintain high standards of care throughout the facility. Ultimately, this position is essential for enhancing patient experience and supporting the healthcare team in delivering timely and quality services.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least 2 years of experience working as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or equivalent.
• Ability to pass background checks and comply with healthcare facility credentialing requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in multiple clinical departments or float roles within healthcare settings.
• Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
• Additional certifications such as Phlebotomy Technician or EKG Technician.
• Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations including HIPAA and OSHA standards.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in fast-paced, dynamic healthcare environments.

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct patient care including taking vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, and assisting with medical procedures as directed by healthcare professionals.
• Perform administrative duties such as scheduling appointments, managing patient records, and coordinating communication between patients and clinical staff.
• Adapt quickly to different clinical environments by floating between departments such as outpatient clinics, inpatient units, and specialty care areas.
• Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, safety protocols, and infection control standards at all times.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support patient care plans and contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Skills:

The required skills enable the Medical Assistant to perform clinical tasks such as patient preparation, vital sign measurement, and assisting with procedures efficiently and safely. Strong communication skills are essential for interacting with patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure clear understanding and coordination of care. Organizational skills support the management of patient records, appointment scheduling, and adherence to regulatory documentation standards. Adaptability and problem-solving skills are critical for successfully floating between departments and handling diverse clinical situations. Preferred skills, including proficiency with EHR systems and additional clinical certifications, enhance the ability to contribute to specialized care areas and improve overall operational effectiveness.
