Med Surg/Tele Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Med Surg/Tele Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team in a telemetry unit. The ideal candidate will possess acute care experience and have the ability to manage complex patient needs. This role involves caring for patients with a variety of medical conditions, particularly in oncology and hematology.

Schedule and Shifts

This position offers variable shifts, including days and evenings, with 12-hour shifts from 0700-1930 and 1100-2330. The nurse will work 36 hours per week with weekend and holiday requirements, including every other weekend and two to three holiday shifts during winter and alternating holidays throughout the year.

Responsibilities

The Med Surg/Tele Registered Nurse (RN) will be responsible for:

• Caring for patients with complex medical needs, primarily in oncology and hematology.
• Titrating and managing various intravenous drips, including but not limited to:
  
  
  • Insulin
  • Heparin
  • Cardizem
  • Nitroglycerin
  • Amiodarone
  • Octreotide
• Administering blood transfusions and managing patients' response to treatments.
• Monitoring patients and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Current BLS certification required.
• At least 1 year of acute care experience.
• Experience with intravenous drips and comfort in managing complex patients.
• Preferred prior travel nursing experience.
• Oncology or chemotherapy knowledge is not required; internal resources will support treatment needs.

Support and Resources

The unit is supported by centralized telemetry technicians who monitor patient strips, allowing nurses to focus on direct patient care. Charge nurses and house supervisors are present on all shifts to provide guidance and support.

Orientation and Training

A comprehensive one-day orientation program will be provided, including computer training, regulatory requirements, and a 12-hour shift on the floor for hands-on experience.

Additional Information

All nurses are required to clock in and out at the facility. Candidates must note if they have previously worked within the system and should have a minimum gap of six months since their last assignment if applicable.
