Assistant Payroll Manager (51890LAR) City of Preston, England Salary: GBP35,000 - GBP40,000 per annum Portfolio Payroll are recruiting on behalf of a leading accountancy practice who are seeking an experienced Assistant Payroll Manager to support the continued growth of their Preston payroll function. This is a people‑focused role where you’ll play a key part in shaping team development, strengthening client relationships, and ensuring the smooth delivery of multi‑frequency payrolls. Role Overview Oversee day‑to‑day payroll operations across a varied client base. Ensure weekly, bi‑weekly and monthly payrolls run accurately and on schedule. Review payroll inputs to ensure completeness and compliance. Spot opportunities to enhance and promote payroll services to clients and intermediaries. Stay up to date with payroll and industry changes, sharing updates with clients and colleagues. Delegate work, review outputs, coach junior team members and support appraisals, billing and workflow management. Experience & Qualifications Strong technical payroll knowledge across multiple frequencies. Confident communicator with a collaborative, supportive leadership style. Ability to build strong relationships with clients and internal teams. Comfortable identifying improvements and driving service quality. What’s on Offer Salary up to £40,000. Generous annual leave.
