Respiratory Therapist Registered – Full‑Time/Nights Job Description Schedule: Every other weekend 6:00 PM – 6:30 AM and four 10:00 AM – 10:30 PM shifts. Two nights each week. The Respiratory Therapist evaluates, treats, and cares for patients with breathing or other cardiopulmonary disorders. This position practices under the direction of a physician and provides bedside respiratory care according to supervisor assignments and physician orders for both in‑house and out‑patient care. Responsibilities Administer medically prescribed medications safely and effectively, knowing indications and contraindications. Follow indications, contraindications, policies, and procedures for therapeutic modalities, including Small Volume Nebulizer (SVN), Metered Dose Inhaler (MDI), invasive and non‑invasive ventilator management, oxygen therapy, lung volume expansion protocols, and ventilator weaning protocols. Perform arterial punctures using radial, brachial, and femoral sites; draw arterial lines for blood gas analysis. Carry out all aspects of artificial airway care. Set up and maintain infant oxygen devices and mechanical ventilators. Be familiar with oxygen delivery systems such as nasal cannulas, heated high‑flow nasal cannula, venturi mask, heated tracheostomy masks. Set up, safety check, monitor, and troubleshoot mechanical ventilators. Maintain accurate, legible records and document clinical notes in patient charts. Participate in reporting patient progress and prioritizing patient condition to the next shift. Serve as a member of the code team responding to arrest situations and CAT calls. Maintain current knowledge, certification, and licensure. Qualifications Education: Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy (required) or Certificate of Completion in Respiratory Therapy (preferred). Work Experience: Clinical rotations from an accredited respiratory practitioner program (required). Licenses & Certifications: Registered Respiratory Therapist, State of Florida (required upon hire); BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) from the American Heart Association (required upon hire). Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Teach, train, supervise, or use assistance of students, respiratory therapy technicians, or assistants. Experience working in critical care as a respiratory therapist and collaborating with hospital management to determine patient care. Meet respiratory therapy goals by evaluating therapeutic treatment plans and developing treatment options. Evaluate treatment plan effectiveness by observing, recording, and assessing patient progress, and recommend necessary adjustments. Perform all responsibilities required by the respiratory therapy department to address the unique nature of clients. Contribute to respiratory therapy services and organizational success by welcoming related, different, and new requests; helping others achieve job results. Educate patients and families about conditions and teach appropriate disease‑management techniques such as breathing exercises or use of medications or equipment.
