Job Title: Nuclear Medicine Technologist Profession: Technologist Specialty: Nuclear Medicine Duration: 18 weeks Shift: Days Mon-Fri Hours per Shift: 06:30a-3:00p Experience: 1+ years of Nuclear Medicine Experience License: ARRT (N) or NMTCB Registered (or equivalent) Certifications: BLS (AHA) Must-Have: - Skills Checklist, current to 1 year, pertinent to the specialty (Nuclear Medicine) - 2 Supervisory Reference Forms Completed within the last two years Description: This position performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist should have knowledge about Nuclear Medicine Instrumentation, including gamma cameras (both planar and SPECT), PET, radiation detectors/counters, dose calibrators, and quality control of all equipment. The technologist should be familiar with radiation safety practices and handling, including patient and occupational exposures, dosimetry, and ALARA techniques that encompass time, distance, and shielding. The knowledge of Nuclear Regulatory Commission guidelines pertaining to the handling, administering, and transportation of radioactive materials is essential. The technologist should also have knowledge of radiopharmacy, which includes the safe administration, preparation, measurement, and quality control of radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic and/or therapeutic purposes. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Injects and administers all radiopharmaceuticals. Assays radiopharmaceutical activities. Calculates volume and activity concentrations for radiopharmaceuticals. Understands dosages and/or dose ranges for radiopharmaceuticals as they are listed per protocol. Enters records into a dose tracking system. Performs laboratory procedures, including measurement, manipulation, and preparation of radiopharmaceutical kits and unit doses. Understands Nuclear Medicine protocols and procedures. Positions patients on equipment per protocol and procedure. Knowledge of acquisition parameters used in protocols and procedures. Monitors patients during procedures. Has intravenous (IV) access starting skills. Selects appropriate sites for access. Utilizes aseptic techniques when accessing patients. Operates all Nuclear Medicine instrumentation devices. Understands quality control requirements for all equipment used. Understands radiation safety regulations and procedures. Applies safety regulations diligently.
