This job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by employees assigned to this department. General duties include ensuring specimens received by the laboratory are acceptable for testing, operating both primary and secondary instrumentation proficiently, preparing and interpreting gram stains and other wet and dry preparations, performing all routine procedures including blood typing and retesting, operating, calibrating, conducting performance checks and maintaining clinical laboratory instruments, performing order or result entry, checking instruments and benches for appropriate reagent and supply levels, receiving tissue specimens from surgery, autopsy and the nursing floors, and performing proper processing and preservation of tissue specimens.

Minimum qualifications include being a Clinical Lab Generalist licensed by Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners as CLG or CLS.
