Surgical Technician (St) First AssistKettering Health Dayton | Dayton | Full-Time | First ShiftResponsibilities & RequirementsThe Surgical Technician (ST) First Assist is responsible for assisting in direct care to patients undergoing surgical intervention by selecting, setting up, and passing of sterile instruments to the surgeon and assistants, under the direction of the RN and the surgeon. This position requires on-call coverage. The Surgical Technician reports to the clinical manager. This position is for the Cardiothoracic and Cardiovascular team.Responsibilities: The CSFA/CSA may perform specific significant surgical tasks under Professional Supervision. Some tasks include but are not limited to the following:Position and Prepping patientsOpening and closing surgical sitesDissecting tissue and removal of tissueImplanting DevicesAltering tissueProvide hemostasisSuturingApplying/removing dressings, splints and castsAdministering local and other topical agents as orderedPlace IVsOther such procedures as requested and necessaryResponsible for assisting in direct care to patients; surgical techs continually support surgeons and nurses by selecting, setting up, and passing of sterile instruments to the surgeon and assistantsThe Surgical Tech's actions and communications should reflect Kettering Health Networks mission, vision, values, and policies in interactions with patients, families, and coworkersRequirements:Successful completion of examination for first assistant First Assistant certificationOpen heart experience is requiredHigh school diploma or equivalent.Surgical experience preferred; with a minimum 4 years' experience if not a graduate of an ST programExperience as a ST preferredIf not certified ST, must obtain within a year of hireCPR certifiedAbility to multitask and work in fast pace environmentAble to function independently as a surgical technicianCustomer service/communication skillsAbility to teach others due to being a teaching facilityOn-call is requiredPreferred QualificationsOn call required with a 30-minute response time.The position includes both first assisting and scrubbing cases; it is not an exclusively first-assist role.OverviewKettering Health is a not-for-profit system of 14 medical centers and more than 120 outpatient facilities serving southwest Ohio.
