Job Title: QA Supervisor

Job Location: Wilbraham, MA 01095
Position Type: Full-Time
Shift: 2nd Shift – 1:30 PM to 9:30 PM
Schedule: Some flexibility may be required, including occasional weekends or adjusted hours

Position Overview

The QA Supervisor will provide hands-on leadership and direction to a small team of approximately 5 Quality Assurance and Laboratory employees. This role works closely with the QA Manager and Operations team to maintain high standards of food safety, quality, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate will have food manufacturing QA experience, strong leadership skills, laboratory/microbiology knowledge, and experience with food safety programs such as HACCP, PCQI, and Environmental Monitoring/PEM.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise, coach, train, and develop QA and laboratory employees.
• Provide day-to-day work direction and ensure quality standards and procedures are followed.
• Partner with the QA Manager and Operations team to maintain food safety and quality programs.
• Review laboratory documentation, CCP/Preventive Control records, and other quality documentation.
• Write, review, and implement QA procedures and SOPs.
• Oversee and support the Pathogen Environmental Monitoring (PEM) / Environmental Monitoring Program (EMP), including swabbing, investigations, corrective actions, and mitigation activities.
• Monitor laboratory testing and recommend improvements to testing procedures or equipment.
• Investigate product and process quality issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
• Spend time on the production floor to identify and address quality and food safety issues.
• Support customer, regulatory, SQF, and third-party food safety/quality audits.
• Provide training and guidance to employees on food safety, quality, GMPs, and compliance.
• Analyze quality data and utilize SPC (Statistical Process Control) to identify unfavorable trends.
• Maintain accurate quality records and utilize Microsoft Excel for quality documentation and data tracking.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations and other departments to resolve quality issues and drive continuous improvement.
• Support certifications and food safety programs such as SQF, Kosher, Halal, and Organic, as applicable.
• Promote a strong culture of food safety, quality, teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Required / Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Biological Sciences, Microbiology, or a related field preferred; equivalent education/experience may be considered.
• Approximately 2–5+ years of experience in Quality Assurance, Food Safety, Manufacturing, Laboratory, or a related field.
• Food manufacturing experience is strongly preferred.
• Previous supervisory/team leadership experience is preferred.
• PCQI certification/experience preferred.
• HACCP certification/experience preferred.
• SQF Practitioner certification/experience is a plus; training may be provided.
• Experience with Environmental Monitoring/PEM programs is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of microbiology and food-related laboratory testing.
• Experience with testing such as yeast, mold, pathogens, Brix, pH, water activity, fats/solids, and environmental/product swabbing is a plus.
• Strong understanding of GMPs, food safety, quality systems, CCPs, and preventive controls.
• Strong Microsoft Excel and documentation skills.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, coaching, and leadership abilities.
• Ability to work hands-on in a manufacturing/production environment.
• Ability to work the 2nd shift (1:30 PM–9:30 PM) with flexibility when business needs require.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands-on QA/Food Safety leader who enjoys working with people and being visible on the production floor. Someone who can identify a quality or food safety issue, investigate the root cause, communicate effectively with management and Operations, and take ownership of implementing a solution would be a strong fit.
