Senior Research Associate, Histology

The Role Ampersand is currently seeking a highly motivated histologist with a strong background in immunostaining and microscopy to help discover and develop tissue-targeted protein therapeutics. The role will focus on cell-based and ex-vivo approaches to designing and understanding our biologic molecules. As a member of our team, you will be responsible for executing histological experiments to validate drug targets and characterize tissue PK and PD of early-stage biologics. This role offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative and highly integrated team where you will contribute to multiple projects across the Ampersand pipeline. This is an on-site, lab-based role in South Boston with a planned move to Watertown in mid-2026. Key Responsibilities Support discovery programs through development and execution of immunostaining assays focused on helping advance candidate therapeutics in a variety of therapeutic areas. Work independently on experimental design, execution, interpretation and presentation of experimental results. Read and adapt scientific literature and internal protocols to implement and innovate new experimental protocols/techniques as needed. Compile and document experimental data; manage an electronic laboratory notebook, centralized databases, and/or spreadsheets for diligent record keeping. Interact and collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team. Impact projects primarily through lab-based activities. Required Professional Experience & Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biological Science or related field with 2+ years of hands‑on experience in biotech or pharma. Title will be commensurate with experience. Excellent skills with chromogenic and immunofluorescent tissue staining. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively present results and scientific data. Ability to adapt technical expertise and problem‑solving and to learn new skills, applying both in a fast‑paced environment. Enthusiastic about playing a pivotal role in the dynamic and multidisciplinary environment of a small biotech. Preferred Professional Experience & Qualifications Expertise in mouse and human anatomy and disease areas including immunology, metabolism, and/or fibrosis is a plus. Familiarity with imaging hardware and analysis software (HALO, image J, Benchling and Prism) is a plus. The salary range for this role is $81,000 - $107,300. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience.
