We’re hiring a Certified Public Accountant [CPA] or Enrolled Agent [EA] to join us on-site at our Clarkston, Michigan headquarters!

We are expanding our in-house planning capabilities to deliver coordinated investment and proactive tax strategy under one roof. Rather than handing clients off to an outside CPA, we integrate tax aware advisory directly into our wealth management services to strengthen client retention and position the firm for continued growth.

In this client-facing role, you won't just be looking backward at tax season in the rear view mirror; you will design and execute proactive, multi-year tax strategies in lockstep with our financial advisors. We are seeking a high energy professional who possesses a strong passion for taxes, someone who loves diving into tax code, finding strategic savings opportunities, and explaining those strategies clearly to clients.

While holding a Certified Tax Planner (CTP) designation is a bonus, it is not required up front. What matters most is your tax expertise, your desire to work directly with clients, and your commitment to obtaining the designation within your first year.

Key Responsibilities

• Department Leadership & Oversight: Lead and manage the Tax & Accounting department operations, serving as the strategic functional lead across tax planning and compliance workflows.
• Offshore Team Direction: Provide direct leadership, quality control review, workflow management, and guidance to our offshore preparation team to ensure high standards of accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
• Executive & Leadership Reporting: Report regularly to the leadership team on department performance, capacity planning, key metrics, client deliverables, and strategic growth initiatives.
• Proactive Tax Strategy: Design and implement forward looking, multi-year tax strategies for individual, trust, and business clients in close partnership with our advisors.
• Projections & Analysis: Run annual and multi-year tax projections and hold planning sessions ahead of filing deadlines focusing on intentional strategy.
• Value Add Opportunities: Identify key tax saving opportunities, including entity structuring, retirement and estate planning coordination, charitable giving, income/deduction timing, and Roth conversions.
• Client Engagement: Present tax strategies directly to clients in a clear, accessible manner, participating in key client meetings and supporting business development with prospective clients.
• Compliance & Oversight: Review (and prepare, as needed) individual, trust, and small-business tax returns for planning clients.
• Thought Leadership: Monitor federal and Michigan tax law changes and translate complex legislative updates into actionable, client-ready guidance.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
• CPA, EA, or other recognized tax credential strongly preferred.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience preparing and reviewing individual (1040) and business tax returns
• Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing individual tax returns.
• Strong knowledge of federal and state individual taxation.
• Experience with complex tax situations involving investments, capital gains, retirement accounts, charitable giving, trusts, partnerships, and business income.
• Strong organizational and project-management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills (including video walkthroughs).
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to manage significant volumes of work while meeting strict filing deadlines.
• Strong client-service orientation.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to build, scale, and lead a growing operation.
• Ability to work collaboratively with Financial Advisors.
• Commitment to obtaining the Certified Tax Planner [CTP] designation within year 1.

Preferred

• 5+ years of progressive tax preparation, tax planning, and tax-management experience.
• Experience
  with complex high-net-worth tax planning, trusts, estates, or multi-state business returns.
• Prior experience working collaboratively with Financial Advisors or inside a Wealth Management firm.
• Existing Certified Tax Planner (CTP) or Certified Tax Coach (CTC) designation.
• ProConnect Tax Online Software experience
