Phlebotomy Technician

Pay Range: $20.02hr - $21.20hr

Requirement/Must Have:

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required.
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.

Responsibilities:

• Perform blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination.
• Update patient information accurately.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes clearly and courteously to patients.
• Demonstrate proficiency using straight needles and butterfly needles.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and ensure full understanding of physician orders.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
• Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport.
• Store specimen samples according to required temperatures and appropriate collection containers.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
• Assist in troubleshooting, training, and making work flow recommendations.
