ESP Special Education - Grade 6 Language Based Hunking Sch

Position Title: Educational Support Personnel – Special Education Language Based Location: Haverhill Public Schools, Hunking School, Haverhill, Massachusetts Start Date: September 1, 2026 Work Year: Ten (10) months (182 days, 6–7 hours per day) or Twelve (12) months (227 days, 6–7 hours per day) Salary: $27,343.68 to $30,892.68 per year (based on Educational Support Personnel Salary Scale) Responsibilities Under supervision of a certified teacher, prepare for classroom instructional events and other educational or non‑educational activities in accordance with student IEPs. Assist the teacher in implementing special strategies and interventions designed to reinforce material or skills based on individual students’ needs, interests, and abilities. Provide positive, appropriate role modeling and treat all students with the respect they deserve as members of the community. Assist in the teaching process and work directly with children to provide support in academics, social skills, self‑care (ADLs), and vocational tasks. Support generalization of skill development and community integration. Help address student behavior and encourage effort in the classroom. Use online platforms (Google Meets, Google Classroom, etc.) for both in‑person and virtual instruction. Complete onboarding, including familiarization with students’ IEPs, district policies, and procedures. Serve as a resource person for specific student instruction and progress relative to goals. Assist with behavioral interventions and achieve Safety Care certification (training provided). Implement treatment, safety, and behavior plans to support learning environments. Collect data as instructed and collaborate with staff (BCBA, RBT, etc.) in a team environment. Apply ABA strategies and execute discrete trials, de‑escalation techniques, and positive behavioral interventions (training provided). Assist with toileting and lifting/carrying of certain students with disabilities when required. Additional Duties Reinforce material introduced by the teacher, assist with self‑help and independence skills, and implement remedial or review exercises. Aid independent study, enrichment, or remedial work as needed. Assist with test taking, instructional technology, and reading to students. Observe and document performance and behaviors. Implement curriculum modifications or accommodations designed by professional staff. Escort and supervise movement of students throughout the school. Proctor testing and provide make‑up work assistance. Supervise students during breaks, lunches, community trips, fire drills, and assemblies, including coverage for absent staff. Perform additional administrative duties as assigned (lunchroom, recess, playground). Set up and operate instructional and assistive technology equipment under teacher direction. Participate in professional development activities. Qualifications Passing score on the Para Pro Test or other state‑approved assessment program or 48 college credits. Associate degree (preferred); bachelor’s degree preferred. Willingness to accept direction and cooperate with all staff. Prefer prior experience working with children in a school or similar setting. Physical ability to move in and out of classrooms, buildings, and stairs; lift and carry materials up to 20 pounds and, with assistance, up to 75 pounds; ability to climb stairs, kneel, and move easily on and off floor mats. Good judgment, tact, diplomacy, and respect for confidentiality; sensitivity to children’s problems; resourceful, thorough, patient, courteous, dependable, and enthusiastic. Computer literate and able to use assistive technology. Proficient with online platforms (Google Meets, Google Classroom, etc.) in person and virtually. Bilingual language skills preferred. Any additional qualifications as determined appropriate by the district may be acceptable.
