School Nurse Fort Smith Public Schools DISTRICT WIDE - Fort Smith, Arkansas Open in Google Maps Job Description POSITION TITLE: School Nurse - Float FLSA: Exempt LOCATION: District Wide REPORTS TO: Principal, Director of Student Services and Lead Nurse TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: A full contract for this position is 190 days, with benefits as specified in employee contract. Contract will be prorated based on actual start date. QUALIFICATIONS Registered Nurse license required. Pediatrics experience preferred. Clinical/hospital experience preferred. We operate with transparency. We prioritize student and staff safety. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Follows Arkansas State Board of Nursing’s Nurse Practice Guidelines for School Nurses. Conduct monthly nurses meetings. Maintain medication training sheets on all unlicensed staff (UAPs), error/incident reports and necessary follow up, and medication audits. Maintain all equipment and supervise the loaning of equipment within the FSPS district to other departments and to private schools as needed/requested. Gives training for school staff. Follows all school health services policies and procedures. Acts as school/parent/community/health care provider liaison. Identifies, assesses, plans, intervenes, and evaluates student health concerns. Provides screening for health factors impacting student education and utilizes assembled information to assist students in securing attention or treatment. Provides illness/injury assessments and interventions. Manages chronic disease management and education. Administers and monitors medication administration. Performs pediatric nursing procedures such as: gastrostomy feedings, tracheostomy care, and urinary catheterizations. Offers education to promote health and prevent teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. Creates Individualized Nursing Health Care Plans and directs services for students with disabilities and/or health conditions that interfere with learning. Helps to develop guidelines for school district health policies, goals, and objectives. Provides health assessments and participates in Individualized Education Plan development as necessary. Participates in crisis team activities. Provides recommendations for health curriculum. Exercises discretion with regard to confidentiality, maintains privacy and protection of student and family information, and demonstrates trustworthiness. Keeps abreast of new or updated information. Attends and participates in department meetings. Maintains prompt and regular attendance Maintains positive professional working relationships with others Maintain emotional control under stress Abide by state statutes, school board policies, and regulations Other duties as assigned.
