Sr. Opto Mechanical Engineer

Duties & Responsibilities Design, develop, analyze, and test complex opto-mechanical systems that integrate optical components such as filters, lenses, lasers, and sensors. Create detailed mechanical engineering drawings and layouts, ensuring GD&T compliance and adherence to design standards (ISO, MIL). Lead or participate in the entire design process: specification, feasibility, conceptual design, and detailed design. Perform engineering analysis of structural, thermal, and vibration loads on optical/mechanical systems. Use FEA (e.g., SolidWorks Simulation) for modeling and tolerance stack-up analyses, including Monte Carlo analysis. Apply optical modeling software (Zemax) to simulate and optimize optical performance. Decompose complex assemblies into sub-assemblies, considering manufacturing capabilities, cost, and requirements. Interact with customers and suppliers, presenting technical information and contributing to technical reviews. Travel 10% to meet customers in person. Report to Santa Rosa office. Background / Experience Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or related field with >5 years of opto-mechanical design experience. In-depth knowledge of precision mechanical design principles (kinematic design, adhesives, vacuum technology, precision machining). High proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoDesk, Creo) and FEA tools (ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation). Strong understanding of optical principles; experience with optical design software (Zemax, Code V). Must be a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR.
