Family Law Paralegal: Fairfax, Virginia

We are a busy, well-established mid-size family law firm in Fairfax, Virginia. We’re looking for a organized, compassionate paralegal to join our team and support attorneys handling divorce, custody, support, and related matters for clients going through some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

About the Role:

You’ll work closely with our attorneys and support staff to keep cases moving from intake through resolution. This is a fast-paced position with a varied caseload, and you’ll have real responsibility and room to grow.

Responsibilities

• Draft and prepare pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, and proposed orders
• Prepare and file documents with the Fairfax County Circuit Court and Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court, including e-filing
• Gather, organize, and summarize financial records, including income, assets, debts, and support calculations
• Assist with preparing financial statements, custody and support guidelines worksheets, and property settlement documents
• Prepare for hearings, mediations, and trials by organizing exhibits, witness materials, and trial binders
• Communicate with clients by phone, email, and in person, providing updates and collecting information with empathy and professionalism
• Calendar and track deadlines, court dates, and discovery schedules
• Coordinate with opposing counsel, court staff, experts, and third parties
• Maintain accurate, well-organized case files and billing records

Qualifications

• Paralegal certificate or degree, or equivalent legal experience
• Strong writing, proofreading, and organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a busy office
• Comfort working with clients in emotionally difficult situations, with tact, discretion, and good judgment
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with case management and billing software is a plus
• Commitment to confidentiality and professional ethics

Preferred (Not Required)

• Experience in family law or Virginia state court practice
• Familiarity with Fairfax County court procedures and local rules
• Experience with e-filing and discovery management

Family law experience is preferred but not necessary. We’re happy to train a motivated, detail-oriented candidate who is eager to learn the practice area.
