Health Information Management Manager

Position Summary Manages the daily operations of the assigned department or function to ensure alignment with departmental and organizational objectives. Essential Functions Assists with developing specific departmental goals, standards, and objectives which directly support the strategic plan and vision of the organization. Manages staff relations including performance management, staff satisfaction, conflict management, scheduling, staff development, recruitment, payroll, and student engagements. Monitors departmental budgets, regulatory compliance, contracts, and vendor relations; determines and justifies needs for systems/equipment/supplies purchases, monitors usage, and ensures proper working order and stock supplies. Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth and ensures the department stays focused on its role in the continuum of care. Maintains regular and reliable attendance. Performs other duties as assigned. Additional Information Position serves both internal co‑workers and external customers, clients, patients, contractors, and vendors. Works with sensitive and/or confidential information. Possesses a comprehensive understanding of healthcare regulatory and compliance (e.g., HIPAA), skills in applying policies and procedures, and knowledge of Business Office Standards and Recommended Practices. Supervisory Responsibilities Manages the work of others, including planning, assigning, scheduling, and reviewing work, ensuring quality standards. Handles hiring, termination, training, development, performance review, and corrective action for staff. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Business Mathematical Skills – add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure; compute rates, ratios, percentages; draw and interpret graphs. Moderate Computer Skills – frequent use of email, word processing, data entry, spreadsheets, graphics; create and maintain documents and databases, incorporate simple functions to support business objectives. Complex Communication – frequently communicate complex information to management, present, resolve delicate situations, motivate and persuade others. Varied Business Problems – analyze and interpret varied, complex situations; solve problems using knowledge, skills, and established practices. Department Specific – make decisions impacting management and operations within a department; contribute to business and operational decisions affecting the department. Functional Independent Judgment – set goals and priorities for the functional area; make recommendations for department policies, practices, and programs; resolve problems for others. Project Planning/Organization – handle multiple projects simultaneously, including task delegation, oversight, and resource allocation. Education Bachelor's Degree in a related field required; applicable work experience may be used in lieu of education. Certifications RHIT or RHIA Licenses None listed Physical and Mental Demands Employee must occasionally stand, walk, sit for extended periods, use hands for handling objects, reach with arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, or crawl; may lift up to 20 pounds. Repetitive motion of upper body required for extended computer use. Required vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception. Work Environment and Travel Requirements Work environment: well‑lit, ventilated, climate‑controlled office or hospital environment with routine office equipment. May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens, contagious illnesses, toxic chemicals, and biohazardous materials requiring safety precautions and protective equipment.
