Queens University of Charlotte seeks a strategic, entrepreneurial, and community-centered leader to serve as Director of the Charlotte Journalism Collaborative (CJC).

Launched in 2019 with support from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the CJC is a partnership of local news organizations, educational institutions, and community organizations working together to strengthen Charlotte’s news and information ecosystem. Its partners collaborate to respond to residents’ information needs, support rigorous solutions-focused journalism, and create stronger connections between journalists and the communities they serve.

The CJC has grown into an important part of Charlotte’s civic infrastructure. Its partners have addressed issues including affordable housing, elections, public health, and changing public policies and funding priorities. The Collaborative also convenes journalists, nonprofit leaders, funders, and residents through its annual Local News Impact Summit and other public programs. Through Charlotte Documenters, the CJC trains and pays residents to document local government meetings, expanding civic participation and access to public information.

The CJC is entering an important new chapter as part of the James L. Knight School of Communication at Queens University of Charlotte. The Director will operate at the intersection of journalism, community engagement, education, and civic life – connecting the resources of the university with the expertise of working journalists and the knowledge of Charlotte residents.

• Optional: Two or three work samples demonstrating relevant leadership, journalism, community engagement, strategic planning, fundraising or communications experience.
