Pharmacy Technician Specialty – RWJBarnabas Health

At RWJBarnabas Health, the Pharmacy Technician Specialty plays a critical role in patient care and operational excellence. Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician will participate in the medication reconciliation process.

A typical day for a Pharmacy Technician Specialty may include:

• Accessing the HER to view patients in the ED that will be admitted
• Interviewing the patient and/pr family member to obtain an accurate medication history.
• Reviewing external medication history, contacting the patients’ retail pharmacy, or calling other physicians with the purpose of resolving any medication concerns.
• Updating the patient’s home medication list in the HER.
• Communicating effectively with patients and their families as well as working with the pharmacist when patients are currently on medication that are non-formulary.
• Making efforts to convert the patient to a formulary equivalent when possible.

To be considered for this Pharmacy Technician Specialty opportunity:

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• One or more years of Pharmacy Experience
• PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) certification required within one year from date of hire.

Preferred, not required:

• Bachelolr’s degree
• PTCB certification upon hire
