Advertised Salary: Commensurate with Experience Anticipated Start Date: 10/18/2022 Posting Date: 10/11/2022 Closing Date: Open Until Filled Location: Athens Area Position Summary The University of Georgia Microbiome Research group is seeking a motivated and hardworking postdoctoral fellow to support and develop novel approaches to collect, analyze, and interpret human microbiome data to better understand the healthy and diseased microbiome. Our group seeks to understand how the microbiome, particularly the gastrointestinal system, changes between diverse individuals spanning multiple age groups, sexes, ethnicities, and other key population demographics. We are also interested in how the microbiome changes in acute and chronic disease and injury states in conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, diabetes, and cancer and how they correlate with condition severity and prognosis. Duties/Responsibilities Collect and analyze data (85% of time). Write and report research findings (5% of time). Present results to the scientific community and prepare for publication (10% of time). Qualifications Ph.D. in data science, animal science, microbiome, quantitative and computational sciences or related fields. Experience with Python and software such as QIIME/QIIME2. Experience with R and packages such as Phyloseq, DESeq2, ANCOM, and/or PICRUSt. Experience with software and pipelines for analyzing shotgun sequencing data, metatranscriptomics, proteomics, and/or metabolomics. Familiarity with statistical analyses including linear, mixed, non-linear models and non-parametric data for large datasets. Experience in the field of metagenomics and metatranscriptomics; ability to summarize and analyze other large datasets is desirable. Excellent oral and written communication skills and a proven publication record. Physical Demands Minimal lifting/bending in the normal operations of a typical office/lab environment. Travel to/from multiple locations as needed for job duties. Position Requirements Driving license required. No P-Card or financial control responsibilities. No security access requirements.
