Director of Sales and Marketing

Job Description:

We are a boutique family-owned Napa winery seeking a professional and highly motivated Director of Sales and Marketing to represent our growing ultra-premium wine brand in the national and California markets. The Director can work from home within 10 miles of Napa or San Francisco, and set his or her own full-time schedule. The Director will be responsible for maintaining and building relationships with wholesale and consumer customers, scheduling and handling wine tasting appointments at high-end wine shops and restaurants, and managing existing and potential distributor relationships. Anthem Winery has an unwavering commitment to producing the highest quality Napa Valley wines. We specialize in Cabernets, Sauvignon Blanc, and Merlot that are rated 91-97 points, and almost sell themselves at tasting appointments. The ideal candidate has a strong sales background, is very self-driven and highly organized with excellent communication skills, and has the ability to work independently and efficiently handle a diverse set of tasks. Candidates should have an existing network of relationships with top tier on and off premise accounts in California, and proven success selling wine to these accounts.

Responsibilities:
-Manage and grow CA winery-direct wholesale business, distributor sales, and DTC sales by selling about 1500 cases total per year
-Schedule and handle a minimum of 5 appointments per week at top-tier target accounts in Bay Area/Northern California (appointments take 30-60 minutes each)
-Travel to Southern California, or out of state to work with distributors about 6 times per year
-Manage distributor relationships and pursue new distributors in priority markets, serving as the primary point of contact between the winery and distributor
-Keep proprietary target CA wholesale account list up to date by making phone calls to and dropping in to prospect accounts as needed
-Conduct professional and educational wine tastings with potential customers, including about 10 approved DTC wine events per year
-Conduct estate vineyard tastings for groups of 6+ about 10 times per year
-Educate customers on the unique characteristics of Anthem wines, our estate vineyards, sustainable practices, production methods, varietals, and appellations
-Grow our direct to consumer wine club, and handle seasonal wine club releases and communications with members
-Manage and prepare email marketing campaigns through Mailchimp, new wine releases, and social media communications
-Accurately enter orders, send invoices, and coordinate delivery logistics and inventory transfers, including occasional transport or delivery of wine
-Develop and maintain customer relationships and ensure best in class customer service
-Work independently and make your own full-time schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends as events require
-Train retailers' staffs on our wines, conduct wine events, and effectively communicate Anthem's brand message
-Prepare and submit spreadsheets of appointments, account follow-ups, and orders at least weekly
-Follow up with all existing accounts and on past due invoices, deposit checks, and come to winery at least weekly
-Maintain wholesale price sheets, tech sheets, and other marketing materials

Qualifications:
-Bachelor's degree
-Minimum 6 years of wine industry sales experience with prior distributor or senior sales management experience preferred
-Proven success selling and marketing wine to consumers and wholesalers, and extensive contacts with top tier CA wine shops and restaurants
-Extensive wine knowledge, including the grape growing and winemaking processes, varietals, and appellations
-Strong understanding of the three-tier system in distributor states
-Very strong organizational, analytical, problem solving, and communication skills (written and verbal)
-Self-motivated, accountable, adaptable, diligent, innovative and ability to work independently
-Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Powerpoint
-Able to pass thorough background check
-Valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and automobile insurance
-Reside within 10 miles of Napa or San Francisco
-Ability to lift and carry 40 pounds without strain
-Experience using Shipcompliant, Wineshipping, Shopify, Bloom, and Mailchimp is a plus

Compensation: Competitive salary plus commission, negotiable depending on skill set and level of experience.
