Registered Nurse - Palliative Care

Job Description

This is a contract position for a Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in palliative care. The role involves providing patient care in a unit dedicated to patients aged 18 and up with intensive symptom management needs at the end of life. The RN will demonstrate good IV skills, wound care skills, and compassion while managing patients with complex needs and families in crisis. Astute assessment skills are mandatory to advocate for patients who may no longer be able to speak for themselves. The unit also cares for general medicine overflow.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients with palliative needs.
• Perform necessary IV and wound care procedures.
• Conduct assessments and advocate for patient needs.
• Manage medications, including the use of patient-controlled analgesia pumps.
• Support families during difficult times, offering compassion and guidance.

Schedule

The position requires 36 or 48 hours per week, with rotating shifts that include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed by the unit. On-call responsibilities may also be required.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• NYS RN License
• Two years of recent palliative or acute med/surg experience
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association
• Experience with patient-controlled analgesia pumps or CHPN certification is highly desired
