Research Technician II, Pediatrics

Job Summary Works under minimal supervision to provide responsible technical assistance in performance of assignments requiring basic knowledge of techniques and practices related to particular field of science. The Research Technician II position will be trained to investigate genetic diseases and brain tumors, particularly in the setting of neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). This position will focus on investigation of disease mechanisms underlying NF1-associated optic pathway glioma (NF1-OPG) and development of novel therapies to prevent a pediatric brain tumor from causing a neurodegenerative disease and vision loss in children. Preferred Applicant BS degree in Biology/Genetics/neuroscience or other medical research related; Ability to communicate and collaborate with other team members; Research experience in cancer biology, single-cell genomics and childhood diseases would be desirable. Attention to detail, time management, effective communication skills, ability to problem solve and work independently, teamwork, customer/client service, and professionalism. Minimum working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus. Records research data in accordance with prescribed procedures, discussing results with supervisor. Assists in collection of data for project reports. Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning implementation of new procedures. May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of laboratory personnel of lower grade engaged in limited phase of research project. Performs other duties as assigned.
